  • Stupid question time

I know this is going to sound so dum -

But can someone please explain to me - what and why you'd use Air Injectors

I gather they inject air - but where and why , and what improvements ?

    Thanks,

from what I understand of them they are a type boost controller that gives you much better control off the boost over that of a bleed valve.

But I don't have any and my comments are based on what I have read on here, pretty sure Mike gave a very good explanation on one of Phil's thread (the one where he fitted a static boost controller)

To control boost, totally ECU mappable BUT if they fail you can blow your engine because you get unlimited boost, but that would be rare to fail if using the proper gas injectors.

        Phil,
That's not strictly true. However, you are correct when you state that they fail "unsafe", as in what-ever the boost they give in their disconnected state, is the boost you would get if they failed. The trick is to set everything up so that the maximum boost you can get with them disconnected is the max you would see with them fully working.

Obviously if you don't do this, then you will get the max boost the turbo can produce. If you unplug my air injectors, you just get a flat boost curve of 2.2 bar....

However, the same applies to external wastegates, if these fail in a particular way, you can also get unlimited boost. You just have to know your car, so that if it reacts differently, you are instantly aware of the issue.

The atmosphere, the air is bled off (electronically pulsed) to control the amount of pressure applied to actuator to hold the wastegate to shut.

Is a very confusing term to be fair, air injectors for boost control would make a lot more sense, but I suppose it's the way things are
