When mine packed up the internal heaters wouldn't turn on. I changed the switch, tested wiring, etc and everything worked. Got a new fuse box and it now works fine. Just my center gauges (Boost, volt, etc) don't seem to work snce the box was changed, so will have to re-check everything.

I got a new one from Ford's, but had to match up the part numbers as there was 4 or 5 variants and the one listed for mine was different to what I had.

Dave, generally they do bigger faults like heaters and wipers.

The dashboard heater control lights are probably just a broken copper track behind the actual dials.

What dashboard switches do you mean?

Ive not had this problem (yet ) on mine but have had a couple of fuse boxes go tits up on other Fords. Quite annoying at the time as it took a while to trace the source of the problem. One week it would leave the heater motor running overnight leading to a jump start being needed in the morning, usually in the rain / snow and the next i would have a ring side seat to a dashboard disco. Also got pulled up for my reversing lights flashing the cop car behind
New fuse box later and all was well

Can you still get Escos fuse boxes from Ford out of interest

                  Fuseboxes are still available, yes.

I went out to start the car after work and it wouldn't even turn over.
Replaced fusebox and still nothing...ended up being one of the relays had gone. Suppose I learnt the hard/expensive way and didn't just replace the relays first, but I've ended up with a brand new fusebox and still got my old one just in case which is good, cause I probably wouldn't have bothered to actively go and source a spare 'just in case'.

Heater lights could be the bulbs behind the dash, or as said the circuit - which on the earlier Mk5 Escorts was a sh*t design! Flimsy piece of crap...

Most likely, and it will be pumping water into the passenger footwell? Can't you smell coolant inside the car? Either that or the heating system is blocked, air-locked.

Either way, it NEEDS sorting, or you will have a major resto to do later.....

When my fuse box went it was the fuel pump circuit. I was able to take the box apart and re-solder all the dodgy connections and I haven't had a problem since.

When you turn the lights on the switches light up. Rear fog, rear heated screen, Front Fog and front heated screen, the front fog is the only one that lights up when the lights are switched on

Also fag lighter dont light up either, they all did when l put it back together

Check someone just hasn't bypassed the heater matrix, as it's a bugger to change ?
