...are they a proper Cosworth?..Purist wise...as i got the 3dr and escos and want a collection but is a saff worthy?...they seem to look a youngster boyracer car with no real heritage (except engine and mike rainbird but owning the rebuilt shoddy effort i lost respect in them)...your opinions.

yep! i love the shape and the comfort.and tbh if it werent for the garage i have now,i wouldnt have an escort i'd be in a saff. proper car imo,ok not showy like the escos and 3dr but it does its job so well

Yep, I would say they are a nicer drive than the 3 door and the Escorts .. I love the shape, think they look very hard but under-stated. No fuss, just about the drive.

          Can't beat a super-saloon

I would say so as well. When (note i say when, and not if) i win the lottery, im buying a saph (2wd + 4wd), 3 door, RS500, scorpio and mercedes.

My dad had one from new and whilst it always felt like special car it was no match for the 3dr or Esc in the looks department

Just never saw the appeal TBH - seemed to be driven to within a inch of their life, and didn't seem to have the same cult follwoing as the 3dr or the Escos.
Also, given they're cheap (relitivley speaking for the performance) they do seem to attract a fair few people who otherwise wouldn't be in a performance car...
I do appreciate that therre are a LOT of them that are looked after, and maintained etc properly, but imo it seems the majority of attempted cost cutting measures that you see on another site do come from saph owners..

i will agree with that but it doesnt make the car bad it makes the majority of dumb as cheap skate owners bad

if you want to add a Saphire to the collection, track down a Rouse or an ex works car

We owned Rouse no 31 for 4 years now in a collection in Ireland

The last few shows I have been to, National day last year, 2x central days at the pod, castle coombe etc, the Saff has been there in less numbers than a 3 door or escrote, people have been breaking them for spares too much, soon the saff will be the rare breed of the Cosworth world!
