  • Fitting an GTR Transmission

Has anyone here fitted an gearbox / transmission from the Skyline GTR to their Escos like on the Reyland car?

I understand that it's quite an extensive mod........ Would like to know more!

    Cheers!

Seems like a reasonable price, I'm interested in this mod because the GTR gearboxes are quite easy to get a hold of here in Asia.....

There is a guy on Passionford called Lloyd, he fitted the R32 set up into his Mk4 escort that was a cossie 4x4 conversion, and had adjustable front to rear bias .. Might be worth firing an email off to him

its a very very big job

gearbox tunnel has to be widened for one, and you will never be abe to put a std cossie box back in, props need to be custom made to go from skyline to ford fitment

you have to cut off a ford bell housing and then weld it onto the skylinebox, get this wrong and you have to start all over again

clutches need to be sorted aswell, so no doubt flywheels possibly

also pumps are needed to control the 4wd system of a skyline as they work on pressure plates not a chain like fords do, id also imagine exhaust mods

            plus hydraulic clutch need aswell

i really wanted to do this but reyland dont offer this anymore unless its the os sequential gearbox

I can't quite see the point of the adjustable bias on a roadcar or trackday car. And six speeds are available for much less and in less complex ways. If it's simply for the strength, get a fix-it gearkit

                Just my £0.02 worth

Ive looked into it quite a bit and its not a hell of a hard job if your any good at fabrication. I could do it for a lot less than 5k lol the boxes are around £400 on ebay.

I'll maybe take you up on that, if it comes with a guarantee!

It's a hell of a box. Capable of 600+ horses and great for the road.

Personally, it's the way I'd go if money wasn't an object. But I've not seen it available (properly fitted with diffs etc) for anything near 5k let alone under it!
(If anyone knows different PM me! )

It wasnt a offer to make one just that i recon i could with enough time and a bit more research. The centre diff isnt that complicated either, it works on a hydraulic actuator in the box. When the actuator isnt putting any pressure on the clutch packs the box is then only transfering power to the rear wheels. The more pressure that is applied to the clutch pack the more split is being directed to the front wheels. So all you would need is a 12v hyraulic pump and then pipe it up to the box with a variable valve system. But i havent had a chance to sit sown and figure that out yet.

And from what i remember the clutches are the same size. So you could use the liner clutch with the escort flywheel and pressure plate.

Now all this is what ive found from searching and reading on various forums so with out actually buying the parts i dont know how acurate it is. But im going to start buying the parts slowly and trying it all out.

And for that a reputable tuner will want around 11k with the diffs to handle it!

If I tried to do it, it wouldn't leave my garage!
