  • General Question - Temperature gauge

I have a 1992 Escort Cosworth and when the ignition is switched on the needle for the temp gauge goes 1\4 of the way up the gauge and as the car warms up it goes up into the red, I have tried changing both temp sensors and no change. The water temp is about right no where near boiling. Any ideas, could I have a faulty gauge?

My temp gauge used to do the same but when the lights were on. Caught me out driving at night once when noticed the needle creeping into the red. Pulled over and switched car off but left the lights on and needle continued to rise.
Checked engine temp and was reading normal.

Same happened when putting car into garage at night, left lights on and went to open garage doors etc, by the time I got back to start up and drive in the needle had gone up.

In the end I replaced the fusebox (for another reason) and have never had the issue since.

Has it always been like this? If it has you'll just have to remove the dials and refit the temp needle to correct position.

      Scouse.
