  • Are prices on the up or are people just being silly?

Can't help but noticing lately that most of the Escos's on Ebay and Autotrader have asking prices of in excess of £20k, and even £30k in some cases

Are they really commanding this sort of money, or are people just trying their luck?

Might stick mine up for £30k and see what happens

Some of the high priced ones aren't selling, but they are creeping up. Your best bet would be to speak to the RSOC Registrar, and perhaps get a valuation - you can then work out a price based on that.

Dave on here is the registrar.

I have been meaning to do that since I got it three years ago I am trying my best to keep it, not really got any plans to sell...

Think of a realistic price and then add £5k that's what seems to be happening at the minute (not that I'm complaining)

The question is find yourself a like for like comparison mileage and condition vehicle from a trader and then take your car in and see what he offers you? If he has one up at 35k then surely he should offer you at least 30k - is that not a fair comment? I don't see why they shouldn't as you would expect that from any vehicle.

Simple answer Imo ...... yes . They have moved on in price but as folk have said a lot are not selling even on the forum a lot are sticking but the standard low miles cars seem to be commanding good money and possibly the modified cars high bhp etc seem to be harder to shift . I know the imp blue on autotrader big turbo was 22995 then 20995 then sold at 18 at garage so if cars are priced right the old cliché .without a doubt the prices have moved on but to the extent that some are priced at .... Imo NO hence why it's majority of cars that are still for sale on sites mentioned. I think Hodgson and monte etc are in dreamland

I have to agree to some extent , if you look at dj car iirc had series low mileage and that was 25 grand ??? Now that car would be easily 30 grand sneddys old car 15kmiles and stunning Un tampered was 25 now be close to 30 Imo and that wasn't that long ago !!! Cars like that and there few and far between are worth that sort of cash but the run of Mill cars with "average" mileage aren't worth anywhere near that Imo and haven't moved all that much looking at what's about and what's sold .Imo there are a few cars that are worth upwards of 20 and select few near 30 .be interesting to see thoughts but imo £25 grand should buy you low miles standard car .16-20 should buy very good use able car with sensible miles , under 16 obviously higher miles and 30 should buy you for example 15kmiles stunning car that can be taken straight to show and the high bhp well modified cars are very hard to value imo as a lot of cash and effort has went into them but seem very hard to shift (no disrespect to anyone ) just my opinion

I personally think when they get to a certain level then it's not for me but that's my opinion and there are guys out there investors etc that I would say will pay 30 grand for super super low miles genuine Un tampered car with original panels and un restored who will sit it in a garage for 10/15 years but I just can't see the logic in that as I although would keep mine as garage queen would take it out for shows etc etc , and just can't see the investment potential in comparison to buy to let for example .If looking for investment in rs marquee the rs500 has to be the one to have I also think it's good for the escos that it went up I value but I think as said there comes a cut off point for these cars and a lot advertised currently on e bay etc are not selling for a reason ......

If its priced realistically than it will sell - as per some of the examples this year that have sold on here.

i sold my black escort cossy 6 months ago , and got a 1993 big turbo lux , in white , 1 owner , 18500 miles , mint underneath and on top , all standard , i paid 25k , a little more than i wanted to pay but cars like this do not come up very often and i do intend to keep it for a few years and i think when i do sell it should be worth a little more

Gareth even Sneedy's old car which I now have it required money spending on it and to bring it to an even higher standard will have even more spent on it ,with the original exhaust and a set of original tyres I bought plus painting the front bumper splitter grills etc and painting the side skirts and all the small jobs like new wheel nuts ,new quarter window caps ,buying a tailored cover for it, insurance, mot, service etc etc it just keeps adding up and that was starting with an extremely nice example.
Yes no doubt it has increased in value and I think will continue to do so , so I dont mind spending on it
To be honest I've had offers to buy the car in excess of £30k and although I've no plans to sell it at least I know should I ever want or have to sell that the money I've put into it should be returned.

                            I agree .
Low owners low miles standard cars will fetch good money . A white 1 owner car with 18k is a 25k car Imo ...... that is realistic and buyer/seller happy .

That's my point your car is one of the very few cars that command good money my prices were examples of what I think these cars are worth, my personal opinion is I have a cut off point and a lot as the market has shown is the "average" cars at over inflated prices are not selling. Sorry if singled out your car just thought was good example of how prices have moved on for that sort of condition/mileage and imo the prices have not moved on to the same extent for some of the cars that are offered for sale currently or been on for well over a year . It's just my opinion not a argument by any means
