  • Getting my escos back on the road brakes help?

Hello there! After my shameful breakdown on the m40, I have been busy doing other things and so haven't been here for a while. I also haven't had any money to get the escos sorted and back on the road. I still don't have any money, but have decided that a credit card might be the way forward.

Is anyone able to give me some guidance (seeing as the mechanic ex-bf seems less than forthcoming these days). My car has AP racing brakes and ex-bf mechanic thinks one of the sliders in the calliper seized, causing the pads to munch the disc away. Obviously I need new pads and discs and here's hoping I won't need a whole new calliper Looking on eBay, it look as though you can substitute AP discs with Reyland, is this advisable? What else do I need to find out with regards to what replacements to buy?

    Yours truly,

dopey girl playing at owning a fast car

Need to know what size discs are currently on the car and what model of caliper it is so you can get the right pads, a pic might help those that know ap brakes

Get the calliper stripped and cleaned then get the Reyland discs. Think they are about £300

I have wilwood brakes on my mk1 escort and before that I had APs that I took of and sold to a mate when I was doing some changes to the car, in my opinion BIG mistake

As said you could send the calipers off and have them refurbed hopefully that will cure the problem long term

Then new discs and pads fitted and you should be good to go

Getting my escos back on the road brakes help?

                      Why oh why oh why!!?
Talking about brakes and noticed a wet patch on the garage floor near rear O/S wheel. Dipped my finger in it and had a "little" taste brake fluid!!!!
Took the wheel off and splash plate and calliper wet with the stuff, so stripped the calliper off the car and found the seals split and leaking past the piston!!
About 2 years ago I bought a refurb kit from Big Red and never got around to using it, so it was put away in a box..........somewhere lol took me a while to find it and now my calliper's been re-furbed and back to working again. Just need a new set of pads now.....more money

Oh nooooo! Sorry for the jinx!

Right, here goes; the moment that I remove any smidgen of doubt that I am in fact, a complete numpty. One thing I do now know is that the pads are green stuff. The callipers don't say AP on them like the front ones do, is that because they're not? Please don't have a go at me about the rust, she's been sat for six months

I know I'll have to measure the diameter of the disc, does the wheel need to come off to do this? I'll find out about getting the callipers refurbed to
