  • Long studding blocks

Getting an engine built for my car as the block has cracked around the bolt holes.

Was speaking to Mike and Ben at the weekend and mentioned about long studding the block.

What is the best to go for i.e 10 or 6 long studs and why lo.

I know you have to mod the water pump so the studs can go in the front, is there any other reasons people go for 6 studs and not 10.

    Thanks.

    Dave.

Was told ten only needs to be done if having block linered
It will need welding 1st but I have seen blocks long studded
With out being welded ask x power scs or mad

Dave, if you are having NMS map it when it's done, it might be worth speaking to Karl because I think he prefers them without long studs.

Dave 6 is the way to go , but they need to be bonded in properly , seen a few prob with 10 studd the corner of the block breaking off , water pump mod is a weak point , also spoke to mountune about this and they said 6 pukka wrc gasket , job done !

          Thanks Dave.

Gary, the block has cracked because of having normal bolts.

          Xpack, sounds good to me.

          Dave.

            Dave,

I'm using another block on standard bore, not using the block that has cracked so no welding needed.

            Dave.

I had a conversation with Karl at NMS about this and he said long studs are fine as they stretch ok but short studs don't unless you're using the standard stretch bolts

I have 10 long studs in mine and all is ok, mine is linered though. I had the six in my block before it was linered and it was also fine. It depends and what power you want.

not going big power, be around 400 bhp, just want it to be reliable.

think the 6 studs are the ones to go for.

                      Dave.

Wonder if you have done a few track days in it how long the engine would last lol.

for the sake of a couple of hundred quid, I will get it done.

                        Dave.

                            no Robert, the escort cosworth.

head gasket was going and when the head was off the block had cracked around 2 studs.

it was on its last bore anyway so got another engine getting built to take its place.

                            Dave.
