  • Rough idle issues...?

    Hi all,

After sorting the overfuelling issue with my Escort I now have a rough idle problem.

The car revs fine and I have driven it down the road only a few hundred yards and help it in gear and she is not missing or anything when being reved and no miss when the boost kicks in although not had a chance to winde it up.

I removed one of the plugs and it is sooted up... could this be why it is not idling very well?

Or do I need to adjust the phase sensor?

    I have recently replaced

    Plugs
    Group A Coil
    Ignition amp
    3 bar map sensor
    dizzy cap
    rota arm in the dizzy
    phase sensor

I have gapped the plugs to 0.6

This is a video of what it is doing

    Thanks in advance

    Mark

PS she is going in for MOT tomorrow.

That could be a vac leak that.

    Scouse.

      Are you running closed loop?

Mine does this when it is on closed loop.

Afaik closed loop shouldn't be running on idle.. I assume you're talking about lambda.

I'd try another set of plugs. The massive overfuelling you've had isn't good for them at all..
Or at least try to give them a clean..

            Sorry not running closed loop.

Drove the car to the MOT station today and although lumpy on idle and a very slight miss on low revs it boosted and took off fine (Not given it hardly any just enough to see if the boost cuts out)

Would a incorrectly gapped phase sensor cause this or am I looking at plugs and checking for VAC leaks? I am guessing the VAC hoses are on the right hand side of the engine bay?

            thanks

You can have vac leaks on plemium and inlet gaskets too. Vakum hose to map sensor is a normal failure

OK that has been moved about so could be the problem. I will take it off and double check it is OK.

So could the plugs being sooted up be a cause? I dont want to replace the plugs if it is going to soot them straight back up..

Can you clean plugs in petrol? I have a new set which are sooted up...?

The plugs are probably fouled up from the over-fuelling issue. Just put another set of new 071s in .
