  • Help.. Steering shake!

Hi guys... Would a sticking brake piston do this?? It's not all the time but when it happens its undriverble!! It's strange as its there shaking like fook then goes for a while then back again!! Or any other ideas would be helpfull. Think I've heard a slight rubbing on the drivers side wheel..

I had this. I changed the wheel spigot rings and thought it sorted it. But it didn't. Turned out that the front diff had come loose.

Check that the 3 bolts are done up tight.

Well I've been under car tonight spent a good couple of hours checking bolts/ trackrod ends etc etc... & all is tight as it should be!! Checked the AP brakes & all seems to be
Ok with the discs running freely.. One thing I've noticed is when you turn the steering wheel now & again it judders.. & last time I took it out I noticed the power steering fluid was ... Had been spitting out the tank & was very hot!!
Is the pump/rack on it was out?? & would this be my streeing shaking problem?? Any help would be great ..

            Thanks Rich..

Sounds like it could be your rack but also check your tyres I've had loads of people change bearings etc. and turns put to be a tyre separating or sometimes they go hard or flat spot if the cars standing for a long time.

Tyres are new & shaking goes one minute & back again.. Say I'm doing a constant speed of 70mph the steering wheel will shake like fook for a bit then go & the cars as smooth as hell Then back again It's a strange one..

                Cheers Rich..

How would a rack cause a shake going straight? I can understand a slight judder when stationary and under pressure, that could be a belt, tensioner, pump if noisy etc. Does or has the car been stored for a long period, have you any other wheels you could try?, you need to eliminate them, perhaps swap them around, get them balanced again, always at the same speed?.

Had similar problem years ago, bad shaking now and again!

The problem went away after changing, what I think is called the a-pan? suspension part, it was badly worn.

Cheers for your replies guys... Wheels are all straight with new tyres & balancing.. Everything underneath is tight with no play.. Suspension is koni & hads only done bout 5k normal road miles.. It's all poly bushed underneath too.. Car doesn't get used much at all, only for a few shows....I'm thinking its the ap brakes as did get a bit of shaking since owned for 5 years but used to clear when car was used.. But it's not clearing now just comes & goes when using it.. Maybe got a sticking piston???

                          Cheers Rich
