  • Decking a block and impact on compression ratio

OK, so following on from my other thread I'm going to get my block machined shortly, including getting the block decked to ensure it's absolutely flat for a wrc head gasket.

The block needs to be rebored, so I'm planning on buying new oversize pistons to maintain the CR at 8.0. However, I've been playing with some numbers and (assuming I've got my calculations right!), decking 0.25mm off the top of the block will increase the CR from 8.0 to 8.15, or if 0.5mm has to come off, the CR goes up to 8.32.

Assuming I want to keep the CR at 8.0, presumably I either need to get the same amount skimmed off the top of the pistons or I need to use a thicker head gasket (do wrc gaskets come in different thicknesses, and what is "standard" thickness).

    Thanks for any help!
    Dave
