  • EsCos not starting - any idea why?

    Hi,

I went to start my EsCos tonight. As usual de-armed the alarm & immobiliser and fuel pump started to run. Cranked over and over and over but it doesn't fire? I've definitely got fuel pressure as it is showing the normal level on the gauge. I've taken out the plugs and given them a clean, but it still doesn't fire.

I haven't touched anything on the car since the last time it was out and running. Any ideas what the problem could be?

It's also worth mentioning that when I switched the ignition on for another time without even cranking the car over, it made what can only be described as the biggest bang I have ever heard - similar to a shotgun going off .

Any idea what caused that too?

    Cheers,

    Agar

I've heard that sound before. It's the sound of your wages leaving your bank at an unstoppable lightning speed.

The car runs an MSD wasted spark setup, so I'm not sure where that leaves me with regard to potential ignition problems?

Stoo - funny, I thought the same

Have you checked to see if you are getting a spark? When you turn the ignition on is the fuel pump running constantly or just priming up as normal?

Just a thought, did you lock your car with the keys activating the Ford imob, then unlock use key fob?

I have this on my car at the moment. Could be

                  Phase sensor
                  Crank case sensor
                  Plugs
                  Leads
                  Dizzy cap
                  Dizzy rotor
No.power to pin 20 on the ecu
                  Fuel pump weak
                  Coil
                  Ignition amp

I have just ordered the dizzy cap, rotor, phase senspr.and the crank sensor. Hpping it is one of these. If not then I woll be trying the coil and ignition amp next. Its a complete mind field. Could be wiring on the loom

Hope to god it's not the fuse box

I changed the crank sensor last night and its definitely better now (almost firing but not quite). I think the engine was flooded by that point. It was 22:30 and I was up at half 5 for work this morning before then leaving straight for croft in my Golf instead.

When I get back ill take out the plugs, turn it over to get rid of the fuel and hopefully that'll sort it.

It's definitely getting spark and fuel.

Hmm, I will bear this in mind if it still isn't working once I de-flood it. I did think the pump was making a strange noise the day I last used it, but I could have been imagining things (usual cossie paranoia!)
