Is that fibreglass resin in the middle there or are my eyes just shot and its just a darker shade of filler?

Are there any imperfections in the panel, any dents or anything? Can't see why use it either

That stag reminds me of the technique adopted by most of the american resto programmes on tv where they seem to skim the entire shell with bodge as if they are plastering a wall! lol

The camper on the other hand... wtf?!?!?

Must have been a newbie at it, start with just the pin holes then deluding himself thinking all of it won't blend and just bulge instead. Shame really.

This is a camper Im working on now to restore and hire out. A 1969 Danbury. Just about all the safety areas were manufactured with filler with little;e or no metal behind.
The bad twats had even made artificial spot weld marks on the return lips .

I come across this all the time with these campers. People doing them up hyper cheap and selling them on for multiples of thousands of pounds. Ive seen recent copies of newspapers stuffed where the sills should be then lacquered over with inches of filler. Real sad if you paid £17k for a Splitty to find its been bodged.

                          Paul,
That van has been deguttered probably due to sever corrosion. New gutters done correctly is a very costly repair. A common bodge is to cut away the gutter and weld up the roof which causes masses of distortion hence the amount of filler used on that roof. Nearly all deguttered roofs that I have seen look just like that....appalling tbh

I would post a lot more of the work I do on campers, ive seen some shockers tbh, but I didn't think any one would be interested until you started your resto tread.... but by then it was too late. Ive been doing this for 25 years alas until 2004 I didn't have adigital camera but since then I have been keeping photo graphic history so the customers can take them to the VW shows .
