what are you using? im using silkolene 10w-50 (the red stuff) and the car sounds very tappety at the top end

I'm using Fuchs Titan pro S (10W50) Mark, my car always sounds tappety when it's cold but once warmed up it sounds sweet
I thought about getting new tappets but sod it its quiet once up to temp
PS when I'm at shows etc i always make a point to listen to the cars when they start up and they all seem to sound the same ie shite!1995 Escort RS Cosworth (Gone but not forgotten) -
Think i'm using the same and its quite tappety on start up but quietens down by time its up to full temp
Though you would think it would be the other way round as the oil must thin out as it heats 
As said, pretty sure i've got Pro S in the engine at the moment but i have Pro R on the shelf for the next oil change as that's what R&B are now supplying
