Just a little Report for anyone who's interested in what's going on with Dave Jackson and the Infinity Racing Focus Cosworth
After a frustrating year last year the engine's finally running correct and the dry sump setup is doing the business.
Brands hatch was the only real days testing dave and the car had so we knew this weekend was never going to be a walk in the park
so warm up was delayed a little but once out on track dave had to scrub in the new tyres and after only a couple of laps he put in a respectable 1:40
The race was Red flagged due to KTM snapping a steering arm and by the time it was removed there was only time for 2vmore laps, whilst in the pits Dave said there was a knocking noise coming from the back of the car, we had a quick check and at first sight couldn't see anything.
once the session was over we got the car back to the lorry up on the Air Jacks, removed the rear bumper and defuser and it looked like a fitting on a fuel pump may be able to knock against the Antiroll bar, just for a quick fix we cable tied it up out of place just to see if it was that what was knocking....
next up was the practice round, everyone's a lot faster the roar past the pit straight was deafening, lap after lap you could see Dave's confidence in the car was growing as he was hunting down a white Evo closing the gap at a good pace,
in this session his lap time came down by 3 seconds than in warm up, it wasn't until the very last lap coming out of Barn Dave reported miss fire, its was a good job it was the last lap as when we got it into the pits the mahoosive amount of boost and power the car is running had split the inlet manifold...
running round trying to find someone with a welder Dave Called Mark Walker from MK motorsport up and luckily he was on his way home as if he was still at the track he wouldn't have made it home and back to the track in time for the Qualifying session "no Qually no Final"
so in a Flash MK Motorsport arrived all the gear gas, grinder rods the lot and set about fixing the inlet! in the mean time we drained the fuel out of the car and refilled it with Race fuel, with 6 deg ignition on a different map the car could now run 800hp
all welded up put back together, race fuel in dave sets off three quarters of the way into the qualifying session he managed to put in 4 laps only the best time being 1:36
once back in the pits Dave said when the cars compressed the knocking noise from this morning is ten times worse and he thinks it may be the 9" diff on its way out! this was quiet and concern as if the diff locks up at speed it could be catastrophic
we got the car upon the jacks spun the wheels pulled the shafts about not a lot we could do to be honest there was no obvious knocking noises coming from anywhere everything was tight so it was a case of go out do your best see how you get on
dave went out and the second lap into the race the rear shaft had snapped on the inner lobro joint only putting power to one side of the rear of the car, race over with a time of 1:37
the evo's were very quick, but second place was only half a second quicker than Dave's best time! Mark Kemp was blisteringly quick and Dave's not going to have an easy ride that for sure, not making excuses but it was his home track so it will be interesting to see how him and the car fairs out as the year unfolds I know Dave's not going to take no prisoners at his home track when brands rolls round!
Bring on the next round at Croft on the 11th of may
