Just to clarify the car is NOT recorded on any Hpi register and had no marker against it. When it was recovered the car was partially stripped I bought the car back from the insurance company for a premium to ensure the car would not have any markers against it]

Yeah I read that the other day too & wondered how this could be possible.

Not much use in HPI ing something then is there if insurance companies are prepared to massage the truth provided you pay them enough.

Also something to be aware of. I bought a car which I knew had a new front strut top. I checked the fine print of the RAC HPi record which said if the car had been damaged etc then you could claim back through the RAC as an insurance you get with the HPi check. I did the HPi check before looking and seeing it had a hit and ended up buying the car anyway for a cheaper price. But came home and called the RAC and said the car has been accident damaged and never showed up on your registra etc and would like to see about claiming on this insurance they sell you. Turns out you cant. There attitude is, if the car was registered and you bought it not knowning it was registered then you could claim on this... but.... you have to HPi the vehical first with all the details, and in this case, the HPi report should tell you the car is a write off etc... so why would you buy it or have to claim on it? you know the car is a write off etc as the HPi should tell you?

I bought this up with them but they didnt want to know. The person on the phone understood where I was coming from and admit it was pointless etc.

Long story short, the car was great! Had a years happy motoring from it and sold for more than I paid for it

i suppose its a possible risk with small accident damage as it can be repaired on the side to save no claims etc so you would never see it on an hpi check but if its stolen then there should be no way its allowed to be not recorded, maybe it is only in ireland so it wont matter to most of us lot anyway
