Smoke/Steam from the back of the engine?

Morning guys,

as we all know, had checks for head gasket issues recently, well it seems really tightening the cap has resolve the water lose I had.

What I have noticed though is on the back left hand side of the engine I am getting a whip of smoke after giving it some boost.

The area it is coming from is around some pipes down behind the turbo/back of the engine.

What are these pipes in this area and what could be causing the smoke?

I smelt it and its not really got a scent? Not oil and no smell of antifreeze?

Car is losing no fluids? could it be something touching a pipe or something and causing it to melt or something silly like this?

Normal driving is fine, no difference in the cars performance and had pressure test on the cylinders/coolant system and sniff test on the coolant, all passed with flying colours. Mechanic checked the engine out and said it was fine?

I was going too but my phone lost the pic I will get a pic up when next with the car. I have two silicon pipes that run next to the back of the engine.... hard to explain

If they are short and run next to each other through the bulkhead there the heater supply and return pipes. but a pic would help

lol possibly... I just want to resolve it, not bothering me as the car feels fine etc and all the tests passed. Just something I have on my to do list to sort, wondered if my fellow RS owners had anything like this before?

I don't tend to snoop about under the bonnet when I've been for a blast..

I find it's easier to wait for a problem to occur rather than go looking for one

Just interested that is all, wouldnt want to leave it and its something that is a simple fix but could possibly cause massive problems in the future.

That is all, I am chilled, just working through my to do list and finding things I can try

do you see this under the bonnet or while your driving?

as if driving how do you know its comming from that part, as it could just be some water on the road or snow thats it your exhaust creating steam comming up through the vents?

but those two pipes are your heater matrix, one goes into a metal pipe directly across your turbo manifold into thermostat housing the other goes round back of the engine into the oil modine

but if one of those was leaking it would do it all the time like any water leak and would always create steam

also what power are you running and what breather set up? as my old saf on std breather set up on a good blast used to chuck some oil fumes back into the air filter and would release through the vent

if your not losing water you dont have a water leak, thats what you have to think, and a little bit of steam in the conditions we have at the mo can just be from the roads

as the saying goes if its not broke dont fix it

I used to be like you Mark when I had my old Saff, I was forever checking everything everytime I'd been anywhere. In the end it started to spoil the fun of driving it so I stopped doing it.

As Paul says, problems will occur. They're 20 year old performance cars at the end of the day, why spoil your enjoyment of the car by finding problems that may not even be there?
