Ruffly what price range does he have in mind because there are a few snap on ones that are not that dear but do the job what is the main sort of makes he works on

Cheap and cheerful, reads and erases all codes. If you want to go more in depth then you will have to pay a lot more and go for a professional one. But this is perfect for DIY
