One of my pals is restoring a S1 that Gaz has just done a very nice job of painting, he bought it stripped and partly restored so it came with boxes of parts etc and amongst it all was this tag, im not that clued up on S1's and can never recall seeing one before. Is it a propper Ford fitted thing and if so where abouts is it supposed to go?

ginge thats how short my vin number is as it was 1 of the early mk3`s which have short chassis numbers like mk2 escorts, be worth a few quid if he can get a logbook to go with it if its from a mk2sigpic

It's a correct number for a S1 but it's on an old style VIN plate - FU = Feb 1985
I guess someone has bought a blank VIN and stamped it themselves as if it were a geniune tag it would have been stamped from the rear.
Unless of course this car is a prototype or something which was handbuilt and had a special tag, but I doubt it as there would surely be a serial number or something on there

As above this plate doe's not belong to an S1.
Looks like an old skool tag made up to match the chassis number, has he got both the vin tag and the colour plate??

Yeh Paul he has both vin and colour tags, I did ask him if the number on that tag matches his vin but it does not, looks just like a random part then in all the spares he got with the car then. Cheers for the infosigpic
