Ive been offshore for over 10 years justnow there is alot of work out there, but it seems if you dont have atleast a couple of trips under your belt then the agencies give no help. A roustabout is general labour working with the cranes, mopping and cleaning, you will need your survival, MIST training and green hands course as a minimum.

IMO it would be the weather would bother me! (10 meter waves in the NS at this time of year would be interesting as you could end up on an FPSO rather than a rig!)
I'm in the oil industry, but happily in an office in London

What do you do then rolls?

I'm a crane tech at Enermech and work all over the show now and Iv'e got to thank Robert/c20tbo for that

As Neil has mentioned you need Bosiet, Mist and a medical. Its a hell of a hard industry to get into, I tried for years.

You would need BOSIET,Mist & medical 1st off (Around 1k), then TBH it really does come down to who and not what you know.
At the moment our guys are doing 3 on 1 off and we are still over a dozen guys short and having to interview this week.Depends on what you want to do but to get your foot in the door it may be that youn accept whatever comes your way just for a start, there is plenty promotion aswell just now and on the drilling side it appears you can move up the ladder quite quickly.

driving a truck isnt great for the family thing either believe me - especially if you need to look after it when its not on the road, thankfully mine will go in my drive so if i need to mend it i just bring it home and hope the weather is ok

anyone care to comment on the height question??
