  • [Help] Clutch pedal

    Hi guys.

Yesterday, I decided to take the cossie out for a spin, so after taking it out of the garage I left it idling to warm a bit and then took off. 1st, 2nd and as I was changing into 3rd as I pressed the clutch pedal, I heard a noise and it went straight to the bottom. "Great" I tought "clutch cable snapped", but then I took my foot off the pedal and it came up on it's own. Pressed it a few times, and it worked fine. Did around 40 miles and it didn't do that again.

Anyone knows what causes this and what do to repair it?

clutch ratchet damaged or could of just been clicking up a knotch and slipped should be fine but if this keeps happening you will need to replace clutch ratchet and pawl knightmare job though

they wear and slip and are a bit of a chew to fit as its awkward geting the spindle back into the pedal with the spacers etc, ive changed a few on my old escort van and found easyst way was wen you remove the spindle from the pedals try and put a bit bar in as you remove it to save evrything dropping out.

the same thing happens with mt75 transits and i have had loads do it,never had it happen with a mt75 2wd granny or sierra though, also my 1st escort cozzeh did it and tbh it spoiled the drive home but i managed to knock 1500 quid off the asking price because of it so no harm done

Its an Asshole of a Job. If you do take the peddle box assembly out, think about fitting a new heater matrix at the same time. That's a twat to do as well with the peddle box fitted and you know what will happen. you do the clutch peddle and the next morning find the passenger foot well full of water

Speaking of water, where do I get a standard water radiator from?

Portuguese ford dealers charge more for a standard than the price of an all alloy one.

I think they want to pay the portuguese debt with the cosworth tax...

If you're thinking of doing a clutch ratchet on an Escort, then my advice would be...................let someone else do it as it's a fooking nightmare Sierras aren't too bad, but the Escort is "fun"

And mod it as for the MK6 Escort type.................so much easier to do!
