  • Has the ESCOS become a toy? + How do you drive yours?

    Hi all,

Its been a torment of mine since late last year. I was hoping the IVF would have had a BFY, but alas no.We have now started again. So if it had worked or does in the future, I would most definitely trading the 911 and getting a more suitable sports classic for the kids to sit in relative comfort. Should have been last November but

The big question is has the ESCOS had its day for general every single day to day driving come hell or high water

I have been trying to interact on this site for some time and I cant picture any one member and where they fit into the ESCOS scene.

From what I can see there is :

    1. The " In Awe " member, never been in a position to own one and now has got one. Keeps it completely standard & 100% mint. Doesn't want to put many miles on the car, afraid that it might go wrong and worries about its value. What would make you drive it every single day

    2. The love the car, mod it to death spend an absolute fortune on the car, keep it absolutely mint only occasionally use it but get loads of fun on track days. What makes you not use the car every day

    3. Then there is me. Want to drive it everywhere, want to mod it to death, cant be arsed how many miles I put on the car, wont get worried about stone chips or finding it under 2 ft snow on the drive. But will do anything that is required to keep the car in top notch . If it gets seen with stone chips and the odd scratch then so be it.
Who else is like me. Who else just drives them with far too much power and just loves the car every day

There is nothing wrong with any of the above but I cant get a feel for what you are all like.
Truthfully, is my desire to thrash around in a 20 year old car with kids in the back the start of a Mid Life Crisis.

Just to add, I'm a one car person, not I cant afford to have more but my character wont except having cars stored for a nice day. For eg there is no way i could keep the 911 and an ESCOS. I would always choose the ESCOS every time and the 911 would decay. Doesn't matter what else I had cant be doing with car collections. Its just a me thing.

    Thanks for any thoughts.

I think i'm somewhere inbetween, i want to keep it in top condition but am aware that its not a concourse winner But at the same time dont see the point of having a car and not using it, people deserve to see cossies

I think all 3 of the points cover how i feel in some way

have a look at the state of my paintwork that pride and performance has just done i did sorn mine in november then taxed it in jan it's got stone chips and scratches and 500bhp but gets used when i go somwhere. i dont use it as a daily driver because i can't be arsed to get it out the garage in the dark in the morning and put it away at night when its dark. i was in the navy as well and was on rfa's down in falmouth 300 miles there and 300 back and used to use it as my weekenders car and it was parked up in the dockyard during the week so it used to get used in all conditions so im in the same camp as you with regards the usage of the

Well for me as i have said before it will be built to a concourse spec but not getting used for concourse its going to get used alot not everyday but most of them.If the car is rebuilt i cant see why you could not drive it from day to day.

Number 3 is closest for me.............. but i don't drive it everyday as i've no reason to do so......... so in that respect it's definately a toy, i don't 'need' the car atall and if i got rid of it my life would be no different.............. except i'd be a miserable git, oh wait, i'm that already

It would bankrupt me to use it daily anyhow with a thirst like that ........ and maintenance costs
Plus i couldn't leave it anywhere without having a nervous breakdown........... far
too many inconsiderate disrespectful plebs around

Mine is a weekend toy, first year I had it I used it in the winter as well. But realised that body parts are hard to get hold of for them. So now its stays in the garage all winter and I've got pretty much all the body parts spare just in case...
I drive well over a 100 miles a day during the week, there is no way I'd use the Escort for that.

I'm closest to your number 3. But when it is working it is mainly my weekend toy. It gets used for going to shows. I love driving it.

But I do have the good fortune of having a Focus RS as a daily driver.

Id have to be guilty and put my hand up to this one. I dont want to put many miles on it (couple of thousand every year) but I dont really worry about it going wrong and in the summer I do use it as a daily sometimes.

Im a 1, worked my arse off for 3 years to be able to afford one but now dont get time to use it / affraid to put too many miles on the clock as i cant afford it to depreciate too much or buy spares if i break it.

Im not too fussed about the standard part though as long as i have the standard parts to put back on if i so wish

To sum up i need to earn more money and do less work
