  • Latest Update: 16/1/11 I have now found my old ESCOS Q48RMA...help

I have traced my old Escos I built from a bare m/sport shell back in 1997. The chap I originally sold it to in 2004 has still got it and its in a Barn being stored for the last 3 years. It wont start, has brake problems & it needs a re-spray and body work doing. ie its very tatty. what should I offer. I basically gave it away when I sold it in 2004 for 6K ( total give a way I know but its value wasn't and never has been an issue with me). I just wanted to get my 911 Turbo. Should I offer him what I sold it for??? It was a runner at the time with MOT etc etc etc and in reasonable condition for a retired GP A rally car. It has no MOT at the moment either. The car has been SORN'd. He has spent some money on it, he has to have the Daugherty box repaired not long after I sold it. Too much power through 5th. It tore the Synchro ring off the gears. He also has has new AP disc but it must have been at least 3 years ago.

ps this is how I feel at the moment:

The thing is I dont really think it is worth a lot. I have found to my amazement just how things have moved on since 1997 when I built it. Its a dinosaur, a time machine. It reflects the things we did back then to make more power. I have a plan if I buy it back and thats to start again with it. I have been looking at the replies back to a post of mine asking for Torque graphs. Every one who posted would whoop my old car , so I recon I have a lot to do to it if I do get it back.

              Hi Craig,
The thing is its on a Q plate because I put it on it back in 1997 as a New build car. My name or should I say my company name " FJ Autos" is the name on the V5 as the manufacturer. The Q plate is no issue to me and If I get it back I am never ever going to sell it again. I didn't realise how many memories and emotions a car can create. I have a lot of me in that car, blood and sweat. That by the way is no joke there is...

I would be inclined to make a cheeky offer, but it is worth asking what he wants for it, but you have to set an upper limit for yourself considering the work you want to do to it and stick to it

Q plate means nothing as long as you're happy with it

You are the only person on the planet with an emotional attachment to this car........ don't let the seller take advantage of that You should be looking at it as what it is and not what it was to give it a money value imo

worth asking him how much will he want for it, as they say no harm in asking, what color is it?

If your not happy with it and don't wanna buy it back can I have his contact details

Problem is you may get down about the state it has gotten into and regret buying it hoping it will be the car it once was. I had an old Saph Cossie that was stolen and bought another thinking it would be the same, but i was never happy

White, and after all I have been through with the car I only have one set of pictures. I sold the car thinking perfection was my aim and the poor old girl was far from perfect. I had rallied the arse out of here. Looking at it now, i dont think any one on this forum expects there pride and joy to be perfect 100 % of the time. I have read so many post on here regarding this problem or that problem that I now look back with hindsight and think well its all worth it and perhaps I shouldn't have sold her, just bought my 911 turbo and kept my Escos as a toy and long term living project.
$hit my hand is shaking writing this and I haven't even made an offer

Sunny its just clicked i am sure i know the car.

Lad live in Helensbrough does he not? The wife's cousin Leigh lived up there and knows the lad that bought it and i was chatting to him a few years ago. I actually asked Leigh to see if he would sell it to me, and offered £6.5k for it but he wouldn't sell. The car has been sat away for 6 months ish when i asked about it so its a good while back. Didn't the lad keep offering your £6k everytime he saw you untill you gave in?

Has roof vents and a hex cloth interior, T34 and greys, white old skool MO 6 spokes? I would still buy the car now if he would sell it.

it could be like finding an old girl friend again, the ride just may not be the same as you remember though
don't let your heart rule your head, take a good look at it as if you had never known the car
