  • Tech Question - Fu**ing Escort! Heater Fan Q?

Ok, so my daily drive has packed up, so I was going to use the Escos for work this week, so fired her up, all running lovelly ... Two mins down the road, the heater blower fan stops ... Nothing on 1,2 or 3 either side for recirc or normal, it was in the hot/3/^ position when it just stopped. It has worked fine for weeks, and it just stopped

The fuse under the dash (20A/yellow) is fine, not had chance to do anything else yet, but I assume it will be a new motor? Sick of the bastard thing now, it always always lets me down just when I need it

Put a power feed into the plug on the heater control panel Wil to test the blower , the blower on my new car doesnt work either and its looking like the fuse box.

I have a spare fusebox you can borrow if you want Neil, I changed mine to try and get rid of a fault, it made no difference... What the fuck were you thinking selling a 911 Turbo to get another poxy Escort?

As you can tell, I'm not feeling the love at the moment

Check the resistor in the fan housing before you change the motor

Also, slightly of topic but... FPMSL @ Wils siggy picture

                    Will,

What are all these problems you are having with the Cosworth ??
The reason I want to change my 911 Turbo for an Escort is the fact they are not too technical. A 911 can be a real pig when it goes wrong.
If you dont want to list the probs can you PM me.

The things I willingly would except if I got another Cosworth are.

Fuse Box electrical contact problems. That can be sorted once and for all. So no worries there.

MT 75 box issues. Can be sorted.

Any instrument or sensor problem can be got around even if I had to use aftermarket stuff. A 911 is Cam/bus you cant do F.All to the electrics.

Corrosion. A piece of wee wee to put right.

ABS system, can be repaired, again its not CAM/BUS system

The ECU, I would throw away and fit a MOTEC M400 system along with a reworked engine. Its a 6 hour job just to change 911 Turbo Plugs.

Then list goes on. I dont feel comfortable with the 911. To be honest its a constant maintenance worry.

What worries me about an Escort is the lack of spares, for eg shaft, bearings, CV's speedo cables, the stupid small things no longer made. All easy to do stuff yourself but just not available to buy.

I hope you reply, it would be good to hear from you and your vews of running THE most lovely car in the world.
I made a mistake 5 years ago leaving the Ford world, just because it has a Porsche badge dont mean its better.

Frank, My car has had EVERYTHING in the world thrown at it New fuse box, new Bara big tooth gearbox, new engine, etc etc etc. Just seems to be one thing after another, each time I get the chance to fix somthing, somthing else breaks. It is getting beyond a joke now, the money i have thrown at this car would have seen me in a tidy 996 turbo or even a 360 if I sold my sapphire as well .. I love them to bits, but I never seem to get any use out of them.

I seriously don't know what to do now, keep throwing money at a never ending cause, or cut my losses, break the car and get one car that does everything ok

Uhm.... Ive been there too. Not just with Cosworths but also my 911. It stands me about £65k and I have a Balloon to pay off, so its not so straightforward to get shut.
Whats the spec of your car. ?????

Have you ever blown one of the big 3 ??
                        Engine, Box or rear diff.

My answer to the fuse box problem was to remove it and replace with a Demon Tweaks Fuse Box. It was over 15 years ago so I dont know if they still use them . I had nothing but problems with the standard one.
I have destroyed 3 MT75 boxes, 2 Pete Daugherty S/C kits and One Dog box from RED. A Get-rag one I think.
Spun out at least 2 pairs of standard front CV's.
Done in over 3 Turbos , directly caused by the Anti-Lag.
My last was a T4 with left hand shaft, 360deg thrust and cut backs. That did survive however I did remove the ALS though.lol

I have never destroyed a rear diff , but have come close with the front. On inspection the teeth on the Crown Wheel were showing signes of stress cracking.

Engine went when it was being tuned, but it was a headgasket failure on a 100k engine , just a shame the oil caused the piston to melt ...

Its not good to hear of anyone so down about their car.
I have to admit once you reach the 400 bhp mark it gets very expensive to go further. The stress on the engine is imense.
I am still well interested in the spec of your car. What ever you do, dont break it. You would never forgive yourself later.
My motto is if it keep breaking, replace it with something different, or remove it.
To be fair, I built my last 4x4 1992 Gp A Sapphire Cosworth and my last gp A 1996 Escort Cosworth in my workshop form bare shells. The Escort was built form all new parts except a Used WARS shell which had to be repaired so it had to go on a Q plate. It took about £40k in cash to build to 1995 spec GP A . No labour included as I did it all including a full GP A roll cage and also did the paint Job. That was the car that destroyed all the boxes. I was just like you. I sold it for a Porsche in the end and now wished I had not.
Anyway, cheer up, not every one is privileged enought to own an Escort Rs Cosworth, and if that didn't bring a wee smile to you face I will say it again....You own an Escort Rs cosworth. That even brings on a smile for me.
Any pictures of her. Your car not your wife ,I should say .
