  • Road tyres for track ???

Can i ask for some help please, Im looking for new tyres. They need to not die a molten death on track but cant be to grippy ( i.e cups or R888's) as i still have a standard sump and fuel system.

The car came with yoko avs' which didnt do bad at combe in april , but with the summer heat on the weekend they were shot in a matter of 2 sessions.

    Cheers.

Loader, why not try Toyo T1 R tyres ?

Dont laugh, but I found out a lot of stuff about them that could be good news for you.

      1. Quite cheap (like £ 320.00 for a set of 4) 225 x 40 x 18 make sure you get the extra load version 93Y or better still 95Y.

      2. Very progressive loss of grip.

      3. Good in dry, wet and damp conditions.

      4. The T1R is specified/used in the AAA Saloons "group B" cars. Martin Thomas in his first season of racing did regular 1: 18.8 - 19.5 laps at Combe.

His Evo 8 (260 "base model") has a standard turbo and a re-map to 340 BHP, car is a bit heaver than standard due to roll cage & bigger brakes. Those are almost the same lap times that the EVO drivers SiB (580 BHP) and his brother Nigel (360 BHP) were doing on 888's at Combe on Saturday.

Martin Thomas said to me that the T1R's "had no grip" as he was understeering a lot at Combe, but clearly they do work on track, they lasted for qualifing and 40 mins of racing (34 laps), with lots of tread left of rears, but only 2mm to 3mm left on fronts.

I dont think you will want to push as hard as him on your trackdays, so your concerns about sump & fuel surge are met, while still using a tyre that is up-to-the-job and is also a LOT better/safer than 888's in damp/wet conditions.

What he said, fantastic tyre and well priced.

I have no experience of the T1R, but the R888s are SHITE!

I realised that on Saturday on Daves car, they are good but you soon know when they are out of their temperature range, which was only after a few laps

the T1R's are superb on my RS Turbo. They really show up how bad the suspension and chassis is overall

Seriously though, they seem like a great tyre to me
