I have found the later quaife 4wd gearbox's to be very good, the 2wd box's have been poor.

The problem is that I'm looking to buy another escort for track days and hillclimb and found one on PH that has a quafe box and I was very tempted to buy it!

                        300hp wont cause any issues.
If your not planning on running much more than 350hp even a standard box would be ok , so a quaife will manange no worries.

Iirc the quaife kits are rated to about 450hp .

No not at all , just out of curiosity . For me the louder it is the more hard core and fun, one of the reasons I would install ALS is for the bom bom bang bang
