  • jobs, what do you do and do

you think you have made the best of life?

im an assistant manager in a car accessory shop and have been for 16 years.due to my love of cars i have stayed, but sometimes i feel i have wasted my life

i'd love a job with animals ie in a zoo,or as a drug dog handler maybe. and sometimes i think i shouldve gone into the police force(although some of my more "colourful" friends may not have liked that)

alot of people are doing good for the world and its people and every now and then i think i have just been a lazy bastid just floating through life.
although i wouldnt be without trace or the dogs and if i hadnt taken my route in life i wouldnt be with them imo.every choice has its fate and there is a reason for it.

what do you guys think? do you wish you had done something else at all?

i've been self employed for the last 20yrs running a small business as a burglar alarm installer, but yeah i do sometimes wish i had a more exciting job, i've often thought i should have joined the fire service or armed forces but i suppose i've been my own boss for most of my working life so there's something to be said for that, if i could go back in time tho i reckon i would do something different

i admire anyone in the forces,i dont envy their job in the slightest although sometimes think i shouldve gone into it,maybe my temper would be more under control then. i get stressed and angry very easy and wish i didnt.as for the fire brigade, again massive respect as im shit scared of fire and the lives they save makes them all stars!!
i dont get the people that call them out to them lob stones and stuff at them.they would soon be moaning when they cant get to their own house due to crank callers getting them out first

                    interesting topic Neil.

My qualifications are graphic design based, specialising in typography (basically type design, and anything to do with fonts and text), and i've always worked in the design and print sector, i've worked my way up from a junior designer to a deputy branch manager, but then took a bit of a change of direction due to me knowing our company pretty much inside out, combined with my apple mac background, and i'm now a business development manager supporting our uk franchise network. I have been lucky really, working with great people in a sector that I wanted to, and most importantly i don't regret any decisions that i've made. Sure we'd like more money, like everyone, but we earn enough that us and our two infants are comfortable. I would like to go back to design some day, but there isn't the same amount of money in design any more.

Well i was an apprentice electrician after school but after 2yrs had enough as found it very repetative and boring.
After that i went to work for TNT in the warehouse for a year out to decide what i wanted to do, 10yrs later im still there
Problem is i still do not know what i want to do, i enjoy valeting and detailing but don't think i could do it every day, i also do a bit of vehicle delivery when a mate is short of a driver but again couldn't see myself doing it day to day....
Lol stuck in a rut springs to mind, lol

Ive done shit loads of crap jobs McDonalds, Comet, Toy R Us, Sextons (Audio service engineer), Canon (Service center, then Help desk), RAC Auto Windscreens, Took 12mts off then cinema projectionist for 2 years (Watched films almost every night as we had to proof screen them before customer viewing) and then onto a DVD rental company where Ive been for 5 years as a store manager.

The company is turning into a joke. I found out from another store manager that my manager has changed, yet my now ex manager (Who I saw today) and my assistant manager (Who I saw today) has not bothered to tell me. I am on holiday and will go back to a new boss, good communication

Im looking round for something else now as getting fed up with job being threatened every 5 minutes if targets are not achieved (Bit hard with Sunny days as there are no customers )

I wish I never listened to my Dad @ 16 and did mechanics instead of a PC course as that was a watse of a year in my life. Ive always worked on cars since I helped my Dad change a head gasket on a 1.4 CVH @ 13 years old. Could of been tuning Cosworth's now instead of repairing my own all the time
