carnt select gear

what caused the gearstick to not select gears and the car is stuck in gear even though you can put the gearstick to neutral

as i have a 4wd sierra on my drive now and carnt move the thing as i carnt select a gera

it did sound like a full straigh cut gearbox when comming down the road but when clutch is in it disapperared

i had it running on my drive i turned it off and when i went to start it it somehow had selected a gear and almost went through my fence

Third gear will have failed the bits of teeth floating around in the box cause alsorts of issues Such as locking in gear

but theres no rattling from gearbox or nothing

yeah, it drove from surrey to coventry without any problems, until about 5 mins away when it started to sound like a straigh cut, hence i thought it could be release bearing as it disapperas when you pressthe clutch

what i dont understand is how it managed to select a gear when i left it in neutral and why i carnt get it into gear

its prob clutch bearing has broken completly so not allowing clutch to work at all

carnt be as if i press the clutch in the car doesnt move anywhere

Id say a problem with a broken gear as blacky suggests.

Problems in the gearbox somewhere as it goes away with clutch depressed and hence transmission not rotating at all.

Whev the box in the van broke it did the same as your describing it tryed to run wenny over
ticking over one min lurching farward on it's own the next

nee to find a box for a v6 4wd now , and its only for a couple months then its getting a cossie motor in it

you sure its not just the selector lever poped of the pin ontop of the box hence the clutch doing its job but not being able to move gears?

ill go take a look see if i can get my hand down there from inside the car, but i dont think it is that as the gearstick doesnt have a lot of movement

pins definitly still on as it was off i should be able to grab the rod and move it easily but its solid same as the gearstick

time to hunt for a new box now
