  • Triple turbo Sierra cosworth

Have to show you guys a really cool build.
The guys behind www.palmturbo.com (who is starting a turbo company) to show off their turbos and their turbo knowledge they built a triple turbo sierra cosworth 4x4 based on the old chassis of "It's fun" those of you who know that car.

explaining the setup from the exhaust side first.
The small turbos is placed in parallel puls-splitted right after the head, 2-3 into one small and 1-4 into the other. The big turbo is a twin entry one and the wastegates from the small turbos goes into the the larger volute of the twin entry exhaust housing and the turbine flow from the small turboes goes into the smaller volute.
On the intake side the big turbo sends it's pressure first to a pressure chamber before the small turbos .Then the small turbos higher the boost in parallel before an IC and then the air goes into the plenum.
The popoff valve after the small turbos sends it's air only to the pressure chamber (that is between the big and small turbos) too keep the pressure between gear shifts.

The small turbos is their aftermarket N54 (BMW 335i) turbos, the big turbo is a turbo made of many turboparts and has a 54/84mm billet wheel. (can't remember more )

The engine is near stock, only some things done like other pistons (they didn't even know the old owner had changed them), Rs500 IC and some more things (didn't ask).

On the dyno paper the mapping isn't finished , still problems to sort out (water in oil and hoses breaking).
The boost is 2.47bar at 3100rpm as a reference (doesn't show on paper).

Have you seen anything like this wide powerband?

is this the same as compound turbocharging where one turbo forces the compressed air into the next? looks a plumbing nightmare lol

      yes and yes
But the first turbo (big one) sends to two small turbos that works in parallel to compress the air further.

It's cool, but a little bit of a company gimic. Easier to get more power using one turbo. But still cool build, very different.

Maybe... When "first" show quarnis was there, and understod he has bought it back, and palm build turbosetup for him AS a "test/demo" build... Not 100% sure

Cool project and that car is definitely a blast from the past. Nice to see someone trying something a bit different from the norm too.
