I've been reading a few threads about breathers. Am I right that the 3 port bailey one is up to the job if plumbed into the sump? Rather than breathing to atmosphere or a catch tank. If so what size fitting should I add to it and the sump while it's off please?

Im using the Bailey mirror image catch tank One goes to rocker cover, turbo side of the block and to original kidney box. There is a big pipe underneath that goes to atmosphere

Is there a definative way these should definatley be plumbed in?
Mine breathes from: cam cover + kidney box.
it has a pip going to under the turbo, and one to Atmo...
      does that sound right?

I don't have space there for a catch tank. Also I've read about others going to the sump. Don't want to vent it to atmosphere any more after spending the last 6 months and counting doing the underneath.

Yes, on the Bailey one, breath from the kidney and the point under the exhaust manifold, with the drain to the sump.

Under NO circumstances breath from the cam cover UNLESS you have a windage tray (only YBPs have these as standard) OR the revs are going to 100% stay below 7000rpm. This is because as soon as you go above this point without a windage tray, the crank picks up a load of oil and chucks it around so that it ends up filling the head and then the crank case pressure builds up and pumps it out into the tank.

When I first had my 500bhp engine done (and breathing from the cam cover), after one 20 minute session at Donington with the old 1990s SpecR set up with just a catch tank and no return to the sump, I had a litre of oil in the in the tank and had to keep draining it out and refilling the engine LOL. I retained the same breather, but reverted to not going from the cam cover and having a windage tray fitted, and it never caused any issues.

If you don't want to vent to atmosphere, you would have to feed that port back into the airbox or into a plastic bottle.

mike my old one had a windage try (bolts to the main caps) and a spec r breather system, going flat out and i had a shit load of oil come out my vent where it created a vacum and sucked the oil up and spat it into the catch tank and through the breather filter lol

i havnt a clue what im doing with my breather as i have what fletch has which is the bailey catch tank but is a breather, but i also have the pro alloy seperator like the bailey one but im trying to work out how to use them together

but the prop alloy and bailey 3 port sepeators are almost the same, they have one to go to kidney, the other underside turbo, but then they have a big pipe at the bottom which ive alwasy thought goes to atmosphere then theyhave a small pipe off bottom which goes to the small pipe under kidney box into sump thats how ive always known them but could be wrong

Looks like i'll be re-doing my breathing system then!
is it worth getting rid of the kidney box too?
